Position Status Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, 6-month probation period

Job Summary:

The Bindery Examiner is responsible for completing all finishing services for products in compliance with company quality standards.

Examples of work performed:
  • Examination of product for flaws
  • Sets up and loads card equipment with required items and prepares computer-operated equipment for operation and production.
  • Operates and monitors computer and equipment to meet production schedules.
  • Troubleshoots minor equipment malfunctions and corrects them as directed by computer operations manual. Refers complex problems to a technician.
  • Data entry of all information as required.
  • Maintains daily log of all work processed.
  • Bind bundles of printed product together with plastic strapping, shrink-wrap and place into crates for shipping.
  • Remove collated books from Collator jogger and check numbering of pages
  • Load and unload sheets of printed product into a counting machine.
The employee is under the direct supervision of a manager/supervisor.

Education and/or Experience:
  • Previous product examination/inspection experience would be an asset
  • Previous operation of production equipment
  • Knowledge of bindery operations would be an asset
  • On-the-job training is provided
Requirements:
  • Existing Secret Level Clearance
  • Manual dexterity
  • 37.5 hours per week
  • Ability to work with numbers (sequential, add, subtract, multiply)
  • Must be able to work all shifts . 12-hour shifts, day shift, afternoon shift, night shift
  • Locate imperfections in products such as colour change
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with coworkers
Working Conditions:
  • Standing for prolonged periods of time . up to 12 hours or more per day
  • Frequent listing, twisting, turning, reaching, pulling
  • Noise level is usually moderate to loud
  • Exposure to ink and chemical fumes, and airborne particles such as paper dust
  • Fast-paced environment subject to numerous schedule and priority changes
  • Unionized environment
Shift Schedules:
  • All candidates must be able to work all schedules as shifts are determined by seniority.
  • All candidates will be working afternoon and night shifts.
  • All candidates must be able to work overtime
12 hour shifts (days and nights)

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday . 7:00 am to 7:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 7:00 am
Thursday, Friday, Saturday - 7:00 am to 7:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 7:00 am

8 hour shifts (days and nights)

Monday to Friday . 7:00 am to 3:00 pm and 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm

Wages:

$14.51 per hour start rate increasing to full rate after 24 months in the position
