Team THS (Universty of Twente) wins Secura Grand Slam Student CTF
Eindhoven, 15 June 2018
A student Capture the Flag (CTF) took place during the Secura Black Hat Sessions security conference on June 14th 2018. This CTF was an offensive security competition for students currently attending University or Higher Education. Twelve teams participated and gained points by solving hacking challenges.
At the CTF there were teams from TU/e, Hogeschool Leiden, Fontys Eindhoven, TU Delft, University of Twente, Windesheim Zwolle and ENSIAD Morocco.
There were sixteen challenges in four categories (Web, Crypto, System and Miscellaneous). The students had to, amongst others, break into the administrative interface of a website, reverse engineer binary code, do a forensic investigation and break the security of a blockchain implementation.
Twelve teams of up to four students worked very hard on the challenges for over six hours. At the end, the team of the University of Twente managed to solve over half of the challenges and won the competition with 1950 points out of the maximum of 4050 points. They were followed by two teams from Delft University: HackerCat and Factuur001.zip. The third place was a close call: Team Hatstack from Fontys Eindhoven had the same number of points but solved the challenges slightly later.
Secura congratulates the winners of the Secura Grand Slam Capture the Flag and thanks all who participated. Next to the prizes, it is good opportunity for students to show their skills and get qualified for a (thesis) internships or job at Secura.
The Secura Grand Slam Student Capture the Flag took place during the Black Hat Sessions: Secura’s annual security conference. Over 300 participants (decision makers, managers, CISOs and technical security experts) came together on June 14th, 2018 to network and to be informed about the latest trend, threats and solutions in the world of digital security.
