In the recent years, an increasing number of proposed standards, frameworks and best practice documents were published to address this topic. At the same time, the mission of the IoT manufacturers is quite challenging, given the fact that IoT development lifecycles are extremely short and implementing security into the products needs to be a precise task. In these conditions, selecting the best framework based on which to incorporate security controls becomes critical.

With various options available on the market, such as ETSI EN 303 645, IEC 62443, IoT Security Foundation framework, GSMA IoT requirements, etc., what is the actual best publication to follow? Furthermore, is security certification for IoT something that manufacturers need to consider, and what are the benefits of that? And finally, between Common Criteria, ETSI EN 303 645 and others, what is the best certification option for your product and would that help in the context of upcoming international regulations (e.g. the Radio Equipment Directive)?
